From Chinese New Year to the Moon Festival: for more than 20 years we have celebrated the great festivals of the Chinese calendar together with Dresden. New on the calendar: our two competitions for traditional martial arts and traditional archery.
Two competitions, one standard
We are hosting two tournaments of a kind that barely exists: each measures a traditional discipline by its own standards – not by those of its modern competitive counterpart. Both are open to anyone who trains that way.
Traditional Chinese Martial Arts Competition
What gets scored is the application – root, axis, power transmission, and the question of what a movement is actually for. Modern and modernised wushu may compete but receives no awards. Open to every style and lineage.
Tournament & registrationImperial Hunt – the course that asks for more than aim
A 3D course with estimated distances in real terrain, plus several trials that go well beyond static shooting. Open to every traditional bow and every draw technique – compound bows are not eligible.
Course & registrationYouth Exchange Taiwan–Germany
Young people from Taiwan and Germany get to know one another and each other's culture first-hand – in both directions. Specific dates are announced in good time via Instagram and on request.
Outgoing – to Taiwan
Teenagers and young adults from Dresden travel to Taiwan: they experience the language, everyday life and traditions on the ground, meet peers and form friendships that outlast the exchange.
Open to participants aged at least 18 and at most 27 at the time of travel – from your 28th birthday, taking part is no longer possible.
Incoming – to Dresden
Young guests from Taiwan come to Dresden: together with our association they explore the city and German culture, bring their own, and meet as equals.
There is no age restriction for the incoming programme.
Festivals that connect cultures
Chinese New Year
The Spring Festival is the highlight of our year. We have celebrated it publicly in Dresden since 2003 – in past years at the grand hall of Dresden City Hall and the Kulturrathaus, with music, dance, martial arts and Chinese cuisine.
Moon & Lantern Festival
Mooncakes, lanterns and music belong to the Mid-Autumn Festival: as early as 2005 we hosted an afternoon of song for the Moon Festival at the Dresden Kulturrathaus – a tradition we keep alive to this day.
Day of Saxony & more
Whether the Day of Saxony (2008 in Grimma), Chinese archery tournaments or culture evenings: we bring Chinese culture to where people come together.
